Infosys Salary in India: Fresher Tracks, Role-Wise, Band-Wise

Infosys is the second-largest IT services company in India and one of the most active campus hirers in the country. The salary question comes up constantly, partly because Infosys recruits in large volumes and partly because the multiple tracks and designations make it confusing to understand what you are actually being offered.

This guide gives you the complete picture: the three fresher hiring tracks, the JL band structure, role-wise numbers, and how Infosys compares to TCS and the broader market.

If you are preparing for an Infosys interview or planning your next move to a product company, Intervue.io connects you with engineers for one-on-one mock interviews with specific feedback on exactly what to improve. Visit intervue.io.

The Three Fresher Tracks at Infosys

Like TCS, Infosys has differentiated tracks that result in very different starting salaries. Most candidates end up on one of three paths.

System Engineer (SE): The standard mass hire track for most engineering graduates. Starting CTC is ₹3.6 to 4.5 LPA. In-hand salary is approximately ₹24,000 to ₹30,000 per month after deductions. This is the default entry point for graduates through campus placement.

Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE): For candidates with stronger technical performance or specialised skills in digital technologies (cloud, full stack, AI/ML). Package is ₹6.25 to 7 LPA. In-hand is approximately ₹40,000 to 47,000 per month. This track focuses on digital transformation projects rather than traditional IT services delivery.

Specialist Programmer (SP) / Power Programmer: The premium track introduced as part of Infosys's AI-first hiring strategy. Three levels within the SP track: SP L3 (trainee) at ₹21 LPA is the highest reported entry-level package, reserved for top-tier engineering talent in AI, generative AI, and cloud specialisations. SP L1 and L2 packages range from ₹9.5 to 11 LPA. This track is selective and targets the top engineering campuses.

Infosys also offers an off-campus hiring program called InfyTQ that can place candidates in the SE or DSE tracks through an online aptitude test.

The Infosys JL Band Structure

Infosys uses a Job Level (JL) system that maps designations to compensation brackets:

JL3B (Systems Engineer / Associate): Entry level. ₹3.6 to 4.5 LPA for SE track.
JL3A (Senior Systems Engineer): ₹4.2 to 4.6 LPA per AmbitionBox. Typically 1 to 4 years of experience.
JL4 (Technology Analyst / Software Developer): ₹6.8 to 7.6 LPA per AmbitionBox for Technology Analyst. ₹10.5 to 11.6 LPA for Software Developer in the design track. Typically 2 to 8 years.
JL5 (Technical Lead / Senior Technology Lead): ₹12.6 to 13.9 LPA for Technical Lead per AmbitionBox. ₹15 to 25 LPA for JL5 Technology Lead roles per Weekday data. Typically 5 to 9 years.
JL6 and above (Technology Architect, Principal, Project Lead): ₹20 to 40 LPA and above. These are senior leadership and architecture roles.

The JL band structure means that moving from JL3B to JL4 typically represents a bigger salary jump than years of increments within a band. Getting promoted is how meaningful salary growth happens at Infosys.

Role-Wise Salary at Infosys

From AmbitionBox and Weekday data on verified Infosys employee salaries:

Technology Analyst (2 to 8 years): ₹6.8 to 7.6 LPA
Technical Lead (4 to 14 years): ₹12.6 to 13.9 LPA
Senior Systems Engineer (1 to 4 years): ₹4.2 to 4.6 LPA
Software Developer (1 to 7 years, design track): ₹10.5 to 11.6 LPA
UX Designer (1 to 8 years): ₹6.8 to 8.7 LPA
Senior Software Developer: ₹5.7 to 6.3 LPA
Test Engineer (0 to 5 years): ₹4.2 to 4.6 LPA

Full Stack Developer (1 year): ₹8.78 LPA average. ₹12.88 LPA at 5 years. ₹29.3 LPA at 10 years per Weekday data
Backend Developer (1 year): ₹7.65 LPA. At 10 years: ₹17.96 LPA average
Data Engineer (1 year): ₹10.4 LPA. At 5 years: ₹21.74 LPA
Senior Systems Engineer (5 years on backend): ₹17.6 LPA average per Weekday

Infosys Salary After 5 Years

At the five-year mark, where you land depends on which track you joined, how many promotions you have received, and your specialisation.

A System Engineer (SE track) who joined at ₹3.6 LPA with average appraisals and one promotion to Technology Analyst by year 5: ₹7 to 9 LPA.

A Digital Specialist Engineer who joined at ₹7 LPA and received one promotion: ₹10 to 14 LPA.

A Specialist Programmer who joined at ₹11 to 21 LPA and progressed with consistent performance: ₹18 to 30 LPA.

Infosys typically runs appraisal cycles in March and September. Annual hike percentages for average performers have historically been 6 to 8%. Top performers receive 12 to 15%. Variable pay is a meaningful component of total CTC: Infosys structures roughly 60 to 70% of CTC as basic salary, with the remainder in allowances, variable, and other components.

Infosys AI-First Hiring and the Salary Impact

Infosys has been public about its shift toward an AI-first talent strategy. In late 2025, the company announced fresher packages up to ₹21 LPA for the Specialist Programmer L3 (trainee) role for candidates with certified expertise in Generative AI and cloud architecture.

This is material for candidates who are actively building AI and GenAI skills. The gap between an SE joining at ₹3.6 LPA and an SP L3 joining at ₹21 LPA is meaningful, and the differentiator is demonstrated technical specialisation in AI.

For candidates in college who have time to build these skills before campus placement, this track is worth targeting. For candidates who have already joined and are on the SE track, Infosys's internal upskilling programs (Lex, Infosys Springboard) can open pathways to AI-adjacent projects that accelerate growth.

Infosys vs TCS vs the Broader Market

At the fresher level, Infosys SE (₹3.6 to 4.5 LPA) and TCS Ninja (₹3.36 LPA) are broadly comparable. Infosys DSE (₹6.25 to 7 LPA) and TCS Digital (₹7.3 LPA) are also similar. The SP track at Infosys reaching ₹21 LPA outpaces TCS's highest fresher package.

At mid level with 5 years, both Infosys and TCS pay ₹9 to 16 LPA for equivalent designations. This is materially below what product companies (₹18 to 32 LPA) and GCCs (₹20 to 40 LPA) pay for the same experience level.

That gap is why most engineers who use Infosys or TCS as their starting point eventually target a move. The interview preparation needed for that move is different from what IT services companies test internally.

Making the Move From Infosys to a Product Company

The interview at a product company tests DSA, system design, and language-specific depth at a level Infosys's internal interviews do not. Engineers who have been in IT services for 3 to 5 years often discover in their first product company interview that their algorithmic problem-solving and system design reasoning are not at the level the company expects.

The fix is deliberate practice under real conditions before the actual interview. Mock interviews with specific feedback on what is weak are more efficient than solo practice because they tell you exactly what needs to change.

At Intervue.io, you can book a one-on-one mock interview with an engineer who has been through product company hiring rounds and will give you specific, actionable feedback on your current gaps.
