Business analyst is one of those roles where the salary range on job portals is wide enough to be useless. You will see ₹3 LPA and ₹30 LPA sitting on the same search results page, both technically accurate.
The difference comes down to company type, city, domain, and how well you interview. That last one is the only variable fully in your control.
If you are preparing to interview for a BA role, Intervue.io runs one-on-one mock interviews with experienced business analysts who give you specific feedback on what is working and what is not. Visit intervue.io before your next interview.
The Numbers, Straight
Freshers with zero to two years of experience earn ₹4 to 7 LPA at most companies. At top product companies with strong internship experience, that range extends to ₹8 to 9 LPA.
Junior BAs with one to three years under them earn ₹5 to 10 LPA depending on the company. The spread at this level is directly tied to skills. Someone with SQL, Power BI, and a clear ability to translate business problems into data questions earns more than someone who documents requirements and writes user stories.
Mid-level BAs with three to five years earn ₹8 to 15 LPA at most companies. At consulting firms and banking-sector companies, this stretches to ₹18 to 25 LPA.
Senior BAs at five to eight years earn ₹14 to 28 LPA. Senior consultants in BFSI and top MNCs hit ₹30 to 45 LPA. Lead BA and BA manager roles from eight to twelve years run ₹25 to 50 LPA.
The national average across all experience levels sits around ₹9 to 10 LPA. Treat that as context, not as a prediction for your specific situation.
Company Type Is the Biggest Variable
This deserves more than a bullet point.
IT services companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Capgemini hire large numbers of BAs. Freshers start at ₹3.5 to 6 LPA. Mid-level professionals with five years earn ₹8 to 12 LPA. The work is often client-facing requirements documentation and process mapping. The pay is stable and the ceiling is real.
Consulting firms like Deloitte, Accenture, KPMG, and PwC pay more and demand more. Freshers start at ₹5 to 8 LPA. Mid-level earns ₹12 to 22 LPA. Senior consultants push ₹30 to 50 LPA. The work is harder and more varied. You move between domains and client environments frequently.
Banking and financial services (HSBC, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo, Barclays India) pay among the highest for BA roles in India. Mid-level BAs earn ₹13 to 22 LPA. Senior roles push ₹25 to 45 LPA. Domain knowledge matters here. A BA who understands trade lifecycle, credit risk, or payment systems is worth considerably more than one who does not.
Reported averages from public salary data: Amazon pays around ₹11 LPA average, JPMorgan around ₹13 LPA, HSBC around ₹13 LPA, Societe Generale around ₹14 LPA.
Indian product companies (Flipkart, Swiggy, Razorpay, PhonePe, Zomato) pay well for BAs who can think in data. These are not traditional documentation-heavy BA roles. They need people who can design experiments, track product metrics, and write their own SQL. Salaries run ₹10 to 20 LPA at mid-level.
City Makes a Real Difference
Bengaluru is the highest-paying city for BA roles. The range for freshers is ₹5 to 7.5 LPA. Mid-level runs ₹9 to 15 LPA. Senior professionals earn ₹20 to 32 LPA.
Delhi NCR (Gurugram and Noida) is close. Fresher range is ₹4.5 to 7 LPA, mid-level ₹8 to 14 LPA, senior ₹18 to 30 LPA.
Mumbai pays well specifically for BFSI roles. The city average across all experience levels sits around ₹10.7 LPA. Senior BFSI roles push higher.
Hyderabad is growing fast. Mid-level BAs earn ₹8 to 13 LPA. Senior roles go to ₹16 to 28 LPA.
Pune runs slightly below Bengaluru. Good market for IT services and product company BA roles. Mid-level earns ₹7 to 13 LPA.
What Skills Actually Move Your Salary
At fresher level, having SQL and Excel is the baseline. Power BI or Tableau on top of that makes a real difference at interview time. Agile and Jira familiarity is expected at product companies.
At mid-level, the gap between people earning ₹8 LPA and ₹15 LPA is almost never about years of experience. It is about whether you can independently own a product area, write your own analysis, present to senior stakeholders, and move between technical and business conversations without missing a beat.
Domain expertise at senior level is worth serious money. A BA with seven years in investment banking operations earns more than a BA with seven years of generic IT BA experience. If you are building toward senior roles, picking a domain and going deep pays off.
The MBA in business analytics path is worth mentioning: fresh MBA grads in analytics earn ₹8 to 12 LPA. Mid-level post-MBA roles pay ₹15 to 25 LPA. Senior roles in strategy and analytics leadership push ₹25 to 30 LPA.
Monthly Take-Home at Each Level
For reference, approximate monthly in-hand salary after standard deductions:
At ₹5 LPA: roughly ₹34,000 to 37,000 per month.At ₹10 LPA: roughly ₹65,000 to 70,000 per month.At ₹15 LPA: roughly ₹95,000 to 1 lakh per month.At ₹25 LPA: roughly ₹1.5 to 1.6 lakh per month.At ₹40 LPA: roughly ₹2.3 to 2.4 lakh per month.
These numbers shift with tax structure, HRA, and the breakdown of fixed versus variable pay. Product companies and GCCs often have significant variable components and ESOPs at senior levels that are not captured in the base salary.
How Your Interview Performance Decides Where in the Range You Land
Every salary range in this guide spans a meaningful gap. A mid-level BA might earn ₹8 LPA at one company and ₹16 LPA at another. Both are mid-level. The difference is where you interview and how you perform.
Business analyst interviews at product companies and BFSI firms test SQL under time pressure, the ability to frame ambiguous business problems into structured analysis, and communication to non-technical stakeholders. These are live, watched, timed evaluations.
Reading about these skills and doing them in a real interview are different things. The candidates who land at the top of the range are the ones who have practiced under interview conditions before the actual interview.
At Intervue.io, you can book a one-on-one BA mock interview with an experienced interviewer who gives you specific feedback on your SQL, your problem framing, and your communication. Not generic encouragement. Specific gaps.
